tariq harb

Ghassan Naji

This is Ghassan Naji. After having heard a concert by Tariq Harb he contacted me about a 2A guitar. He was a bit worried because, being in Jordan, he couldn’t play the guitar before buying it. I assured him that he could return the guitar if he wouldn’t like it. After having received the instrument he sent me the following e-mail:

I’ll never send this guitar back, it’s a masterpiece! I’m very much satisfied with it…well my family blamed you because I haven’t slept well since I got it’

winners #2

The two young guitarists Sanel Redzic and Tariq Harb are both doing very well in the world of competitions. I wrote about them earlier and I am doing it again because they won the first and second prize at the Tokyo International Guitar Competition. Congratulations to both of them. Last September Tariq played in our series in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Coming March Sanel Redzic will give his recital. Looking forward.

Nos vemos

The objective of the Barrios WorldWideWeb Competition is to promote and spread awareness about the works of Paraguayan composer and guitarist Agustín Barrios.

Taking part means uploading video’s on youtube.

There were many contestants among which Sanel Redzic and Tariq Harb. Tariq made it to the final and will be going to Paraguay in December to play in the final.

Here his beautiful interpretation of Barrios’ Mazurka Appasionata which brought him there.

Tariq Harb’s questions

Last month Tariq Harb sent me this beautiful Regondi excerpt together with some questions about his 1996 built, spruce top guitar he just bought at the Grand Guitar Salon in Montreal. In case you have the same questions, these are my answers. In case you have other ones: don’t hesitate to ask.

Is it built using traditional construction? If so, are there 7 fan struts or more/less?

The guitar is built quite traditional with 5 fan struts.

Do you generally follow the Torres model, or any other model? Do you still use the same method of construction for your new guitars?

My instruments have changed over the years. I am always looking for something better of course. But although my model is a little different at the moment, I use the same traditional way of building. Not exactly the same as Torres but still based on it.
