Cyprus Guitar Festival

mustafa elmas- can belgili

Last year Mustafa Elmas and Can Belgeli came to my workshop to buy two of my 2A models. The guitars were meant for guitar students in Cyprus where there happens to be an active guitar community.

Mustafa, Can and the Academic Members of Near East University, Dr. Erkan Sülün and Ünal Dede are playing a leading role in this community. Together they organize a guitar festival to which Esther and I were invited.

There were lectures, concerts and masterclasses.

And there was a boat ride hosted by Ünal Dede who, besides being a guitar professor, is also a renowned sailing instructor.

Sanel Redzic in Changsha

Zoran Dukic and Sanel Redzic at the Changsha Guitar Festival in China.

The Changsha Guitar Festival is an annual, international guitar festival which aims to promote world class guitar music in China. This Summer I visited the festival for the second time, taking advantage of the opportunity to personally deliver a guitar ordered by the chairman of the festival, Qingxiang Li.

At the festival of which Xuefei Yang is the artistic director, I bumped into Kuang Junhong. He is a student of Manuel Barrueco now and happened to have grown a lot since the last time he visited us.

European Guitar Quartet

european guitar quartet

These are Zoran Dukic, Pavel Steidl, Thomas Fellow and Reentko Dirks a.k.a. the European Guitar Quartet, rehearsing before their concert in our series Meesters op de Gitaar.  The program consisted of quartet, duo, trio and solo pieces which were entertainingly introduced by Thomas Fellow. It was a beautiful concert and the audience loved it.

Odair, Zoran and Fa

These are Odair Assad, Zoran Dukic and Fa Denis. Odair gave a great concert in our series. Zoran happened to be in the country and came to listen. Fa, artist manager and CEO of the GHA record label, accompanied her husband. The morning after the concert they had breakfast at our place.

Cang Guang

This is Guang Cang, trying a brand new guitar. The guitar has my former rozet (concentric rings) and headstock. I especially built it for Guangs friend Christina Gai who lives in Australia.

Cang Guan studied at the Beijing Guitar Society with the legendary Prof. Chenzhi and continued his studies in the Netherlands, with Zoran Dukic and Enno Voorhorst at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in den Haag. Living in the Netherlands, Guan became a friend of the family. Yesterday he moved back to China. We will miss him,  but I am sure we will stay in touch.
